Act 3:1 Now Peter and John went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour.
I have studied the early church in the book of Acts and through God’s help I have come to realize that this church which was founded by the apostles had hours of prayers, specific hours of the day that they used to meet and pray together. Their strict commitment to these hours made them to be strong and do wonders in the ministry. The book of church which actually a historical book giving the history of the church and Christian evidently show that third (nine in the morning), sixth (noon) and the ninth (three in the afternoon) hours of the day were hours of prayer. These are the hours that they really use to meet together for cooperate prayers and miracles and mightier work of the Holy Spirit are quite apparent from this wonderful Book.
From the above verse Acts 3:1 reveals to us that it was during the ninth hour that the crippled man at the beautiful gate received his miracle. From Acts 2:15 we see peter telling the crowd that it is only nine in the morning and it can be possible that the church is drunk. It was during this hour that the Holy Spirit fell upon the one hundred and twenty members who had gathered to pray in the upperoom. From Acts 10:9 we see Peter in the house top during the sixth hour seeing a vision which really transformed Cornelius the centurion and his people. From all these verses we can conclude that the apostles and the early church used to pray three times a day at specific times which they observed strictly and it is evident that every time they met there were spiritual wonders that used to happen since they created an enabling environment for the move of Holy Spirit.
Daniel also had his praying hours .The word says that he prayed thrice daily.
Daniel 6:10 Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime.
Brethren, you cannot have praying hours in vain but surely God will see your commitment and answer you accordingly.
When God gave me this revelation, I felt challenged and I had to do something about it and I am still praying for more and more grace. I also want to transfer the same challenge on to you. I want to pose these questions to you which I think will help greatly.
- What are your praying hours?
- How many times do you pray a day?
- What is your last time you attended a prayer meeting?
- What is your last time that you fasted?
I would like to give you a chance to evaluate your answers and if you find them unsatisfactory, it is the high time that you take a step, wake up from the slumber and do something about your prayer life.
It is not a must you have the exact hours that the early church used to pray but you can let be the morning, afternoon and evening hours.
A spiritual man is fed by spiritual food which is reading the word of God, praying, praising and worshiping Him with spiritual songs among many others. Your spiritual man should be well fed, in fact more than we feed our physical bodies. It is good to have a health physical life which is well fed but the sad story is that we severally neglect, ignore and forget the spiritual man. The fact is that most of us feed thrice in a day that is, breakfast, lunch and supper but how often do you pray and read the word of God in a day? Challenging .Is it not? Brethren we need to wake up from the slumber if we want to triumph and walk in open heavens. The word say;
Romans 14:17 For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.
You desire to walk in amazing grace, greater anointing and in open heaven? I know the answer is yes but it does not come easily, you have a role to play and that is to pray. The matters of the kingdom are very deep and hidden but can only be understood by spiritual men who pray fervently and zealously with such great enthusiasm through the help of Holy Spirit.(1 Corinthians 2:6-16).There are some spiritual truths and wonderful revelation that are unfolded to only those who pray .
Jeremiah 33:3 Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.
From this very rich verse, we are encouraged to pray if we would like to know great, mighty and hidden mysteries of this wonderful kingdom of our God and creator.
Paul talking to Ephesians and is telling them he keeps on praying for them that they may know and understand the lord in a better way.
Ephesians 1:16 Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers; 17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: 18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, 19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,
Paul is showing us here that once you take your time and pray for others, greater things happen in their spiritual lives. Paul desires that the Ephesians may walk in revelation , have wisdom and their eyes be opened that they may understand God better and the only way he can make sure that this happens is by praying for them. Glory to God! .Shalom. JOSEPH MIRACLE
